QUEEN’S CASTLE BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION MEETING

Gary called the meeting to order.

Lucy opened the meeting with prayer.

Treasurer’s report: $851.43

Karen read the past month’s minutes.

There was an article on hive beetles in the last Bee Culture magazine.

U-line is a supplier for plastic jars and lids.

We had a discussion about various pros and cons of different types and sizes of jars.

Palm honey tends to crystallize quicker than other honey.  Nectar with a higher sugar content crystallize quicker.

5 gallons of honey weighs 60 #.

Prep hives for winter by reducing space to 1 hive body and a feeder.  This will reduce the size of space that the bees need to defend from bugs.

Store empty frames in a greenhouse exposed to sunlight.  This will help keep bugs out.

Chickens help control bugs around hives.  Nematodes also help.

OJ is going to 8 frame hives to lessen the weight he needs to lift.

We then had a meal of fried fish, chicken and sides.

Those in attendance were Gary Barrow, Lucy & OJ Blount, Karen Brock, Kathy & Bill Blankenship, Joe Blount,

John Kilmer, Randy Shaffer, Frank & Lorna Wilson.

Our next meeting will be 1/28/17 @ Lucy’s and OJ’s.
